Day 3
Day three began with the morning meeting where Joe discussed our blogs, and then the interns split up into their lab groups. Joe brought a guest, Carl, who explained some of the math behind the coordinate transformation required to map the broadcast footage to a location in the hockey rink. We discovered that it was necessary to have at least four definitive points in the broadcast footage to determine the location. Carl left at 9:15 and so Anoop and I spent our time researching more about perspective and coordinate mapping, most of which was very confusing. We had lunch, and then I worked with FIJI to test some of the equations that Carl had given us. He returned at 3:00, and then explained more about the topic and gave use more matrices and equations to map players in the broadcast footage onto a hockey arena. He recommended a book, so Joe, Anoop and I took a field trip to the library to find it. Overall, I learned a lot today.
